The Brewed is a one-of-a-kind horror-themed coffee shop located in Chicago's Avondale neighbourhood, opened in March 2022 by Nick Mayor, Jen Lemasters, and Jason Deuchler—the same team behind the adjoining Bric-a-Brac Records & Collectibles. Named as a nod to David Cronenberg's 1979 cult-classic horror film "The Brood", the shop serves as both a cafe and a de facto horror movie memorabilia museum, filled with posters, figurines, and ephemera from the owners' personal collections accumulated over decades of fandom.

The coffee shop serves locally sourced brews featuring Halfwit Coffee Roasters beans, alongside a menu of speciality drinks with cleverly named horror-themed offerings such as the Skull Island (a banana mocha) and the Firestarter (an ancho chilli and tangerine latte inspired by the Stephen King film). Vegan customers are well accommodated with plant-based milk alternatives, vegan doughnuts from Beacon Doughnuts, and vegan cream cheese for bagels. The space also features pastries from Hardbitten and sandwiches from Ørkenoy's kitchen.

Beyond coffee, The Brewed has established itself as a true community gathering space, regularly hosting horror-themed events including trivia nights, movie screenings, pop-up markets (Monster Marts), and an annual Halloween block party. Despite its spooky theme, the owners have designed the space to be welcoming to all—featuring bright colours and a friendly atmosphere that appeals to horror enthusiasts and casual coffee drinkers alike. The shop is open Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM and Saturday through Sunday from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM.
