Layers is a black owned business bringing luxury spa services to Chicago. This business was started when I faced adult acne in my 30s. I never experienced acne as a teenager like most people do, my acne decided to wait until my early 30s. I was devastated and felt ugly trying to mask my skin with makeup. I was experimenting with different products which actually made my skin worse. While on my personal skincare journey I was learning about different skincare products, different skincare ingredients and this is where my passion for skincare began. I decided to take my studies further and went to esthetician school. I graduated top of my class and now I am here helping my community with their own skin concerns. While being a solo esthetician, I talked to many women of color about their personal skincare routine/goals and I noticed most were skeptical about going to an esthetician for facials (but had major skin concerns) because they were afraid to have someone else touching their skin, and using products they were not familiar with. Now my goal is to not only have a spa for woman of color to be able to go to comfortably but also to bring awareness to luxury skincare. Just like keeping your hair maintained every month black women also need to keep their skin maintained every month. Black women need to know it’s ok to invest in proper skincare and getting luxury spa services is not a crime and won’t cause any damage to the skin.
