Beyond the Book, A Literary Experience, is a Black-owned independent bookshop located in downtown Homewood, Illinois, a south suburb of Chicago. Founded by Taenia Davis—a former corporate executive, organisational behaviour expert with a Ph.D., and author of The Servant Leadership Advantage and The Feedback Blueprint—the store opened in October 2025 as the realisation of a long-time dream to create a space intentionally designed for literary community and connection.

Described as a "cosy literary haven", Beyond the Book combines a thoughtfully curated bookshop with a café and an on-site podcast studio. The store offers a range of community-focused programming, including a monthly book club, a chess club for kids, writing workshops, and a summer boot camp for junior high and high school students. Additional initiatives include a subscription service for elderly readers who cannot easily travel to the store, a poetry slam planned for February, and the South Suburban Literary Book Award and Aspiring Authors Workshop designed to celebrate diverse voices and nurture the next generation of storytellers.

Davis, a long-time Homewood-Flossmoor resident, opened the store in part to fill the void left when Bookie's closed in 2022, and she envisions the space as a "Cheers for books"—a place where "everybody knows your name". The store actively collaborates with local authors, schools, libraries, and nonprofits and has hosted author events, including a signing for Flossmoor resident Dave Larsen's Green Street in Black and White, a finalist for the Chicago Writers Association 2025 Book of the Year Award.
